Teaching
Trinity College:
I have served previously as a supplemental instructor for Introductory Biology, and teaching assistant for Health and Human Rights, and Invertebrate Zoology.
Cornell University:
Writing is an important aspect of science education that is frequently underemphasized. Writing is a useful tool to evaluating a student’s knowledge, develop critical thinking and analytical skills, and most importantly to impart confidence and conceptual frameworks for important biological concepts.
I am currently serving as an instructor for the writing intensive section of BIONB2220: Introduction to Neurobiology (Spring 2010, and previously in Spring 2008), and as the instructor for a First-Year writing seminar,BIONB 1220: Imagining the Brain (Fall 2008).
Science Outreach:
Outreach is a critical component of my view of how science should serve in our society. I teach a 5-week unit each spring at Trumansburg Elementary School in the 5th grade, under the auspices of Mr. Andy Moore, utilizing a curriculum of my own design, bridging between Animal Behavior, Neurobiology, and Physics. We are in the process of exploring funding opportunities for expanding this curriculum to more schools
